Youth Achievement Points

The purpose and goal of the International Boer Goat Association, Inc. BOER (Bearing Outstanding Educational Responsibility) Youth Achievement Points is to motivate, educate and provide a positive experience of youth involvement in and around the show ring.

This is open to the Jr. Membership of the International Boer Goat Association.  All youth are encouraged to participate.  Achievement is tracked in four ways at International Boer Goat Sanctioned Shows by earning points.  To receive points you must be a current member of the Jr. Membership of the International Boer Goat Association.  Upon arriving at the show please check in with the show secretary.  You will need to sign in with your name and membership number.  You may receive points as per below at each show you attend.

B -  Showing animals:   15 pts per show
O -  Fitting/Washing/Grooming:    10 pts per show
E -  Educational Display:    10-15 pts (judge to approve)
R -  Show Assistant:        10 pts per show
Showing Animals:  A Jr. Member will receive 15 pts for showing their animals or another persons animals in the show ring.  The member may show one or more animals but will only receive a total of 15 pts per sanctioned show.  It will not matter what place the animal takes in the show ring.  This is for the experience of getting out in the show ring and showing the animals. These  points are awarded Bearing - the manner in which you conduct yourself and showing fortitude.  On the sign in sheet you must list one animals registration number that you will be showing that day.

Fitting/Grooming/Washing Animals:  A Jr. Member will receive 10 pts for preparing the animals for the show ring.  This may be the members animal or another persons animal.  These points are rewarded for your help in preparing  OUTSTANDING well fitted, clean and groomed animals to be shown in the ring.

Educational Display:  A Jr. Member may receive between 10 and 15 pts for an Educational Display that they have up at the show.  This can be around their pen area or speak to a show official to have it displayed in a trafficated area.  The display should be educational and informative in the area of the Goats, such as Boer Goats, Meat Goats and/or the industry as whole.  Be creative and eye appealing.  The judge at the show will review the display and judge the display for its content and information.  This display should be dated with the year and may be used over again, by adding additional information and improving it.  These points are awarded for your help in EDUCATION awareness of the speices.

Show Assistance:  A Jr. Member will receive 10 pts for assisting around the show ring, on the sidelines or in the background.  It is a favorable idea to check with the show officials prior to the show (weeks before the show), to see if you can be of assistance.  Please show your courtesy to the show officials by letting them know that you will be available.  These points are awarded for your Responsibility and support during the show.


Total amount of points at any one show is 50 pts.

How the points will be awarded: Upon attending an International Boer Goat Association, Inc. Sanctioned Show, Complete the Youth Achievement Points Sheet.  Check the areas on the sheet that you are participating in and be sure to let the show secretary know, prior to the show if you have an educational display so that they can have the judge evaluate it.  Have the Show Secretary or Judge sign your Achievement sheet.  Be sure to sign the form. You may use this sheet for just one show or up to three shows.  When you have completed the form, mail it or fax it to the International Office.

Points Assessments:  From February 1st to January 31st points will be counted and totaled.  Points will be accumulated for a three year period from which the Jr. Member first receives points in that calendar year.

Levels I  -  10 - 50 pts:  International Achievement Patch
Level II -    Above 50 pts to below 150 pts International Achievement Patch and Cap
Level III -   Above 150 pts to below 250 pts International Achievement Patch and International Shirt
Level IV  -  Above 250 pts to below  450 pts  International Achievement Patch and Choice of Lead, Bucket, Show Supplies
Level V -    Above 450 pts to below 600 pts:  Cordless Clippers
Level VI  -  Above 600 pts:   International Boer Jacket

Each Region may have their own awards ceremony presentation and additional awards may be given for the top points awarded in their regions at the Regional Show.
